Painted Mountain corn is truly an American gem. It was bred from a rich gene pool of about 80 native corns. Developed under harsh conditions in the mid-west, it is designed to endure the cold and the drought. They were once planted in front of an industrial warehouse in midtown Toronto, where de-icing salt was applied each winter. They magically survived.
