Hardy Chicago Fig is the most cold-resistant fig variety. It is proven to be able to survive the Toronto winter outdoors (USDA Zone 6). Some say it could be hardy to Zone 5 (Montreal). But we are not certain about this since we only tested it locally.

Figs could survive partial shade. For best results, they need full sun and fertile soil. Normally, the plant looks dry, bald, and ugly when reaching you. Please re-post and water it immediately. It is inherently vibrant and has established roots. It will improve after two weeks in a pot. Please don't transplant it in the ground until it grows two to three new leaves.

Hundredfold Note: Chicago Hardy Fig

One may concern why Hundredfold, a native plant grower even grows tropical plants like figs. The reason is simple, we are all bored of the long winters as Canadians and need something bright to cheer us up.

Chicago fig works well for this purpose. We keep them indoors in winter and enjoy watching the green leaves as the snow falls.
