We are promoting herb seeds here, not selling marshmallow candies for a campfire. Yet, the true marshmallow candies in the old days were extracted from the root of the marshmallow herb. That is where the name “marshmallow” candy comes from.
Native to Europe and Northern Asia, marshmallows are widely cultivated. Each part of the herb is edible. A perennial to USDA Zone 4, It is a cousin to the beloved hibiscus. Therefore, its flowers seem to be smaller hibiscuses.
Hundredfold Notes: Marshmallows’ relentless flowers attract relentless honey bees throughout the summer. In our trial garden with numerous kinds of flowers, Marshmallow’s bee-attracting ability surprisingly surpasses certain native plants. In addition, its extended bloom time allows more bee visits to the garden.
