• This is a showy native iris of northeastern wetlands.
• The rhizome of the Blue Flag is poisonous, but was used by settlers, with guidance from Native people, for various healing purposes.
• A graceful, sword-leaved plant with showy,  violet, boldly veined sepals.
• Grows 2-3 ft. tall.
• Note: Iris rhizomes are available in physical stores, yet those irises may be introduced species from Eurasia. Our seeds are native iris of North America.

Even though this Canadian native iris can tolerate complete submergence, this iris can be easily grown in most gardens. It is not a demanding plant. Once established, it will spread by self-seeding and extension of its rhizomes.
